Out of thousands of potential candidates, only a handful show enough promise to move forward.

Ensuring Quality in Manufacturing
Even after approval, every batch of a prescription drug must be produced under strict quality standards known as Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). These regulations ensure that drugs are consistently produced and controlled according to rigorous specifications for purity, strength, and stability.
The FDA conducts regular inspections of manufacturing facilities in the U.S. and abroad to verify compliance. This means that the medication you receive at your pharmacy is made to the same high standards as the product tested in clinical trials.
From Prescription to Patient
Once a drug is approved and manufactured, it still must be prescribed appropriately. Prescription medications can only be dispensed under the supervision of a licensed health care provider, who determines the correct dosage and monitors for potential side effects or interactions with other drugs.
Pharmacists play a crucial role as the final checkpoint in this process. They verify prescriptions, counsel patients on proper use, and ensure that each person receives the right medication in the right amount.
